reasons for using poor quality green screen

We have chosen to use green screen in our video for one of our shots. We believe that this will fit in with the genre because artists within the same genre have also done this. Artists such as rat boy and crystal castles have done the same. It looked bad and we want to replicate this effect. the effect that we want to replicate is a purposely bad green screen. This adds humor to a music video and a sense of lightheartedness. This is the atmosphere we want to create so it would make sense to incorporate green screen in our video.

Other indie artists that we are taking inspiration from, their videos are also lighthearted. For instance, Jamie T - Sticks and Stones video, Jamie and his friends throw beer cans and various other items at the camera, but not in a crude way; you can see from their gleaming smiles on their faces. In other examples, videos have skits half way through the video where the music stops and the artist acts out or genuinely does something funny or disjunctive to the song. An example of this would b in Rat Boy's Sign On video where he stalls the car halfway through the song. Using a green screen would replicate this lightheartedness and match our genre.

One of the main inspirations we have taken the green screen idea from is The Mighty Boosh. However, this is not a music video and is instead a TV programme. Taking inspiration from a TV programme is unconventional but it works with the atmosphere we want to create. In The Mighty Boosh, they use green screen as a point of subtle humor because the programme doesn't directly point it out and laughs at it, instead the audience is left to look at it by them self and understand that it is a joke. This is obvious because of how bad the green screen is. We want to take inspiration from this and use green screen, therefore our audience will notice this and understand that the video is lighthearted.
